On Becoming A Muse
I've written a novel entitled Natural Acts. It seems to be selling quite well, not least because of a fair bit of significant erotic content. It contains several story lines involving people in multi-level relationships, some of them quite spicy.
Now it's in print I've been thinking about writing a follow-on novel. Not exactly a sequel, but involving similar kinds of relationships and maybe some of the same characters. And I've hit a stone wall.
(Not writer's block. No such thing. Writers write. What's not good we throw away. Anything good, or with a glimmer of good, we keep and build on. But we write. We spew out words and capture them.)
The Stone Wall I Hit:
The narrator and point of view of Natural Acts is masculine. I wanted the next one to be primarily a point of view, understanding and perspective that's feminine. After several false starts, I realized my problem is that I wasn't equipped to represent the feminine viewpoint. I have a 'Y' chromosome. That disqualifies me. I simply don't know how women think. What I wrote didn't ring 'true.'
What to do? Duh! Women have (many?) feminine points of view and thought processes. The right woman, if she was perceptive, articulate and blindingly honest could help if she was willing to share.
I'm thinking of her as my muse. I need her. I haven't found her yet. Are you her? Let's find out.
What's A Muse?
In Greek mythology, the muses were the nine daughters of Zeus, king of the gods. Each of them were responsible for one of nine disciplines the Greeks considered arts. Their jobs were to inspire the mortals who practice their respective arts. Mortals like me.
We Westerners practice arts that overlap the Greek list but aren't identical. For example, they didn't recognize prose writing as an art. But for good or ill, it's my art.
What's My Muse's Job?
The story I want to capture follows a woman as she becomes aware of and enters into a way of thought and living that many still think is quite unconventional. For a long time it wasn't discussed in polite society in spite of the fact it was in wide spread practice in secret. It's no longer 'secret.' It's growing in practice and visibility. Several recent very popular movies have dealt with this way of living.
What I need my muse to do is to start from zero and 'understand' her way into a new, particular mind set that's safe, sane, and based on mutual consent. Most important (to me), she has to share her thoughts and feelings as her journey continues. To the right woman, the journey will feel like coming home to a home she never knew she had. My problem is finding the right woman...and get her to talk to me.
About a third of women in this society are intrigued by the lifestyle I will introduce my muse to. Of those about a third are strongly attracted to it. Of those, about a third are mature and self-aware enough to admit it. Of those, about a third have the gumption to act on her interest. That's a fairly small number. Are you one of them? If you think you might be, read the blurb to the left:
.
Probably the best way to understand the journey I need my Muse to make, and the best way to see if you're interested in becoming my muse, is to read Natural Acts. Do you see yourself in any of the characters you meet there? Do you see something that you badly want but don't know how to get? If you do we should talk.
The book lives HERE:
The paperback is quite inexpensive in current terms, and the Kindle version is even less expensive. It'd be a minor investment for what might be a ticket to a whole new you.
I Read It. Now What?
If you resonate with one of the characters, or if you just think it might be satisfying, and maybe fun, to be my Muse, to inspire and educate me, copy the questionnaire to the right into an email, fill in your answers, attach a photo showing me your face (without shades, please) and as much of he rest of you as you care to share.
Questionnaire:
1). Name
2). City of residence
3). What year were you born?
4). Did you read Natural Acts?
5). Do you identify with any of the characters?
6). Which ones
7). Do you now understand the journey I need my muse to take?
Are you enthusiastically sexual?
What's your biggest turn on?
8). Have you participated in the lifestyle of the characters?
Now for the messy parts.
9). What's your family status?
Married?
Any dependents at home?
10). Height, weight, hair color? The usual stuff.
Any health issues? Medications for chronic ills?
Addictions?
Dietary requirements?
11). Are you free to travel?
Do you have a current passport?
Have you traveled abroad in the past?
12). How do you support yourself?
13). Do you hold any professional licenses?
14). How many years of formal education do you have?
15). What languages besides English do you speak?
16). Are there places in the world you're interested in seeing?
17). Are there places you definitely do not want to go?
18). Do you practice an organized religion?
Which one?
19). Kinda important, this one: Are you interested in becoming my muse?
20). Phone number, and a good time to call.
Important to note: I'm selling nothing, I'm buying nothing. Being my muse must be freely entered into and freely practiced.
As Simple As That?
Almost. There are some catches, though.
You have to be old enough to vote but if you're facing retirement that doesn't mean you're out of the picture. Interest and attitude are far more important than appearance or age. You have to be free to travel. You'll need to have or can get a passport. More than one language is a massive plus. A wicked sense of humor is a bigger plus. The more formal education you have the better. And playfulness and being enthusiastically sexual are essential.
But the really big one is that you have to be willing to let me inside, to tell me all your thoughts and feelings and hopes and fears. Openness isn't easy, but it's what I need my muse to be. Open.
Still interested? Email me and I'll be in touch. You can do this.

I asked for your pic.
Fair is fair, here's mine.
(I'm not really this good looking.)
